Reduce Water Usage in the Bathroom: Top Tips
Toilets
About a quarter of the water used in a home is used to flush the toilet. Remember, this water is the same high-quality water that’s in our taps – it’s drinking water!
Tip: Fizz, don’t Flush!
By simply placing a Wizso in the toilet after a pee, you can skip the flush, saving up to 7.5 litres of water with each visit. These small savings quickly accumulate, and using Wizso instead of flushing could save an individual over 8,000 litres of water annually!
Leaky Loos
Drips or trickles down the back of the bowl often go undetected and are particularly common in modern dual flush systems, wasting up to 400 litres of water a day
Tip: Check for a leaky loo
A leaking loo will usually be visible as a trickle or drip of water down the back of your toilet bowl. If you suspect your loo might be leaking, there’s a really simple trick to help you check.
- Place a dry sheet of toilet tissue on the back of the toilet pan, just below the rim.
- Leave the paper for a few hours (make sure nobody uses the loo).
- Check the paper. If it’s wet, damp/wrinkled or torn, you have a leak!
Showers
It is estimated that Britain’s shower away more than 2,000,000,000 litres of water each day.
Tip 1: Install Water-Saving Shower Heads
A water-saving shower head restricts the volume of water that it allows to flow through. Newer models typically reduce the amount of water used by almost 50%.
Tip 2: Reduce Shower Time
A simple way to shorten your shower time is by using a stopwatch timer on your smartphone. Another effective method is to turn off the shower while you’re soaping up, further reducing water waste. Reducing your shower time by even one minute can cut your water usage in the shower by 10%
Baths
A bath can use as much as 80 litres of water.
Tip 1: Take a shower instead and save around 10 litres of water (depending on the shower)
Tip 2: Fill the bath an inch less.
Brushing teeth and shaving
Running the tap when shaving or brushing your teeth will waste several litres of water every day.
Tip 1: Use an Electric Razor
An electric razor is a water-efficient solution. It can save a great amount of water, as you don’t need to use shaving cream or gel.
Tip 2: Turn off the tap when you're not using it
While you are brushing your teeth, shaving, gargling, washing or scrubbing your face turn the tap off.
